E-Safety

E-Safety, which is now a part of the National Curriculum, is an important part of keeping children safe at Markeaton Primary School.  We implement a range of security measures in school to help safeguard pupils from potential online dangers or unsuitable material.

Any E-Safety incidents are recorded and managed in accordance with our E-Safety Policy.  E-Safety is an intergral part of classroom practice and is woven between different subjects and different lessons.

Safer Internet Day is also recognised at Markeaton and is used to re-visit some of those all important messages about how to be safe online – something all parents/carers worry about with their children.

We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the E-Safety message is consistent.  It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.

Safeguarding Policy September 2024

Here are 10 Golden Rules for being safe online:

1.   Don’t post any personal information online – like your address, email address or mobile number;

2.   Think carefully before posting pictures or videos of yourself.  Once you’ve put a picture of yourself online most people can see it and may be able to download it; it’s not just yours anymore;

3.   Keep your privacy settings as high as possible;

4.   Never give out your passwords;

5.   Don’t befriend people you don’t know;

6.   Don’t meet up with people you’ve met online.  Speak to your parent or carer about people suggesting you do;

7.   Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are;

8.   Think carefully about what you say before you post something online;

9.   Respect other people’s views, even if you don’t agree with someone else’s views doesn’t mean you need to be rude;

10. If you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe or worried: leave the website, turn off your computer if you want to and tell a trusted adult immediately.

Here are some of our own rules for safe internet use:

1.   I will only use ICT in school for school purposes;

2.   I will only use my own school email address when emailing;

3.   I will only open email attachments from people I know, or who my teacher has approved;

4.   I will not tell other people my passwords for the Learning Platform, school network or for other learning websites;

5.   I will only open/delete my own files;

6.   I will make sure that all ICT related contact with other children and adults is appropriate and polite;

7.   I will not deliberately look for, save or send anything that could offend others;

8.   If I accidentally find anything inappropriate on the internet I will tell my teacher or parent immediately;

9.   I will not give out my personal details such as my name, phone number, home address or school over the internet;

10. I will be responsible for my behaviour when using ICT in school or at home because I know that these rules are to keep me safe;

11. I will never arrange to meet someone I have met on the internet without checking with an adult;

12. I know that my use of ICT can be checked and that my parent or carer will be contacted if a member of school staff is concerned about my safety;

13. I will not take part in any cyber bullying. I will also report anything I see or hear about cyberbullying to an adult at school or home immediately.
